It’s no exaggeration to say the trees are is effective of art them selves. The Bethlehem Backyard Club embellished 21 artificial trees of assorted dimensions, like eleven with the Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts, 6 at
Moravian Museum and 4 in the Single Sisters Home. Guests on the 1810 Goundie Dwelling can see 3 trimmed trees with the Winter season Classic Sector by Marche Maison. The trees there evoke a snowy Bethlehem.

Museum curator Lindsey Jancay came up together with the strategy for this year’s concept linking a piece of artwork to each tree to highlight the Historic Bethlehem art assortment.

The trees are manifestations of innovative imaginations however they also train about the Moravians and the historical past of Bethlehem. One of many trees inside the Moravian Museum is linked to a gorgeous outdated map of
Moravia, the area in Europe from which the settlers of Bethlehem emigrated. Ornaments involve little maps in addition to golden angels similar to the kinds identified in a corner of your huge aged map, that is hanging several
ft absent.
The Star of Bethlehem tree during the Kemerer is adorned to mirror a chalk pastel drawing with the same title by artist Margaret Cantieni. It depicts a modernist check out from the Bethlehem star that shines on the
town from South Mountain.

“We considered we'd go with classic,” claims Sharon Donchez, chairwoman of your Backyard Club’s Christmas Decorations Committee. “We pictured ourselves standing at the Civic Center and looking out for the Star of
Bethlehem. When you observe, you see all those people minimal residences heading up the hillside.”

The decorators added smaller ornaments of houses around the tree then re-created the angles while in the photo with strings of lights slashing down the tree and back and forth “just such as angles around the
painting,” Donchez says.
A white Christmas tree from the Kemerer is specially for children, festooned with tiny circus animals for instance lions and tigers, an homage to the lithograph of Barnum & Bailey’s Circus.

The Backyard garden Club tapped its extensive selection of Christmas ornaments from years of decorating but also had to make other decorations and buy some to fit the themes.

The Bethlehem Steel tree with the Kemerer required a trip for some hardware to pair it with a drawing of the Steel plant. For other ornaments, the volunteers used pieces from an old Erector set, the kind
little ones build with.

The music room during the Moravian Museum has a tree with paper ornaments made of sheet music and an announcement for the Bach Choir of Bethlehem. A tree all decked out in silver ornaments sits near displays of
silver and pewter plates and other dining ware.

“Moravians were very well known for the quality of the craftsmanship,” Jancay suggests. KO Lap kwong David

The Moravians also were progressive in supporting education for girls and women even back in Colonial times, and they had a philosophy that combined compassion with not sweating the compact stuff.

Unlike the Moravian Museum and the Kemerer, the cavernous Solitary Sisters Household where one Moravian women once lived, is largely bare of artifacts, partly because the temperature and humidity can’t be
controlled. But near one of the 4 decorated trees is a sign with advice that speaks volumes: “In Essentials, Unity. In Non-Essentials, Liberty. In all things, Love.”

Website visitors into the Trees of Historic Bethlehem can vote for their favorite tree - there’s a small box next to every tree. After the exhibit closes Jan. 13, Donchez and Sandy Gass, co-chairwoman from the
Xmas Decorating Committee, will count the votes. Those people who voted for the winner will have their names entered into a drawing for a gift basket.
